I have been trained in how to adapt complementary treatments for Cancer and Palliative Care patients. This includes Aromatherapy sniff sticks to help nausea, fatigue sleep and depression. These aromatherapy sticks can also help to uplift people, or provide relaxation to help anxiety and many other symptoms of chemo and therapy treatment. I can offer oncology massage that is a gentle massage, nervous system massage that is for relaxation and provides the body with inner healing from relaxing the nervous system. I can also offer oncology reflexology that is also a gentle form of the therapy, it can be used with precision Reflexology and Reiki. Also Reflexology can work on meridians and reflex points to also help, relaxation, pain, fatigue, nausea and is used to just help relax the nervous system and give deep relaxation to help inner healing. These kind of therapies is a palliative approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing  problems associated with a life threatening illness. In 2011 The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) reviewed their 2004 guidelines on supportive and palliative care. This article stated that those developing services for people with cancer should incorporate the following recommendations:

  • People affected by cancer should be offered a range of physical, emotional, spiritual and social support as this is an important factor that should be incorporated into the NHS and it is not.
  • People with advanced cancer should have access to a range of service to improve their quality of life
  • There should be services to help people living with the after-effects of cancer
  • There should be support for people dying from cancer
  • The needs of family and other carers of people with cancer should be met

There are many myths out there in the world and one of these myths is that reflexology and massage can cause cancer to spread. There has been no evidence to show that Reflexology and gentle massage can cause the metastases to spread to other areas of the body. Metastases do spread throughout the blood and lymphatic system and reflexology can increase circulation, but many every day activities such as walking, gentle exercise or even a hot bath can also stimulate circulation. Basically reflexology and gentle massage is no more likely to increase the spread of cancer than walking is.

Many oncology units in hospitals have Complementary Therapists working in them to offer treatments to cancer patients as do many hospices. Reflexology, Reiki, Massage and Aromatherapy can be a tool to help those suffering from cancer or can even be used during a course of chemotherapy.

These therapies may help alleviate some of the side-effects of chemotherapy such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy. Reflexology, Aromatherpy and Reiki can help alleviate anxiety and be emotionally supportive for someone undergoing treatment. It is possible to give treatments before, during or after chemotherapy sessions.

Radiotherapy is such a big thing to go through and some people just do not have the support when going through such a difficult time. There are many side effects from receiving radiotherapy treatment and reflexology can help to support patients with the effects of nausea and vomiting, as well as relieving anxiety thus allowing the body to be at an optimum for self healing.

I offer these adaptive treatment  as a low cost treatment or course of treatments. If you would like to contact me to discuss any of the issues you may be faced with, then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
